I came to the United States for college at Brigham Young University (BYU) in Provo, Utah in 1989 from Peru, built a career as a general practice attorney spanning three decades, raised a family, and somewhere along the way — wrote two books.
My journey of faith has been anything but straight. I served as a Mormon missionary, spent years inside the church, and eventually found my way out — not into atheism, but into something older and, to me, truer: Christian Deism. A faith closer to that of John Locke, Gotthold Lessing, or some of the Founding Fathers, like Washington, Jefferson, and also Abraham Lincoln later on. A belief in a Creator knowable through reason and nature, and in the moral and spiritual teachings of Jesus as the highest expression of what it means to be human.
DEOLOGY is the fruit of that journey — years of reading, writing, and thinking on weekends, early mornings, and stolen hours between client calls. It is a work of love.
My first book, Disyuntivas Esenciales (Essential Disjunctions), explores Latin American and US politics and culture — a subject I care deeply about as a Peruvian-American watching two worlds navigate their futures.
Outside of law and writing, I am a weekend warrior — always chasing a new project, indoors or out. I have very smart and artistic wife and children, and I love following and supporting their interests and activities.
